A fire started around 4 pm on Monday July 20, 2009 in the hills northwest of Ventura, Ca, near the intersection of Hwy 33 and Shell Road. Fire is believed to have been started by a mylar balloon caught in power lines caused an arc. Hilly terrain made combating the fire difficult. Fortunately winds were light. Aera Energy has a number of oil pumping and pipeline sites in the area. The fire was expected to be contained within 24 hours. No structures were threatened, and no injuries were reported at the time of this posting.
